| I want to welcome back our loyal chapter members from their summer excursions and invite them to join us in another season of meetings and presentations of the New England Chapter of The Explorers Club. We have put together some very interesting speakers for you over the next several months.
Our first guest will be Clare Flemming who will be joining us on Tuesday, September 23 at the Union Club in Boston. The Explorers Club was very fortunate to lure Clare away from the American Museum of Natural History to become our Librarian and Curator of Research Collections. She will be speaking briefly about some amazing finds she has made in the archives of the venerable New York clubhouse, but the main focus of her talk will be her research work on Wrangel Island in the Russian Arctic. With renowned AMNH mammologist, Ross MacPhee, the team sought to recover mammoth bones"fresh" enough to test the theory that what led to their demise was not human hunters, but human disease carriers. The talk should be a very interesting look at a remote island and a provocative theory. I hope you can join us. |
