Dear Explorers and Friends:

Now that the taxes are filed, it's time for another meeting of the New England Chapter of The Explorers Club, to be held on Tuesday, April 29th. We are pleased to welcome fellow New England Chapter member Brian Skerry, an underwater adventurer and photographer specializing in elusive underwater subjects. An assignment photographer for National Geographic Magazine, Brian's images have also been featured in magazines such as People, Sports Illustrated, US News and World Report, BBC Wildlife, GEO, Smithsonian, Esquire, Audubon, Outdoor Life, Wildlife Conservation, Yankee, Maxim, Men's Journal and in countless publications worldwide. He is the author/photographer of Complete Wreck Diving (with Henry Keatts) and A Whale On Her Own The True Story Of Wilma The Beluga Whale, and was the principal photographer for Lost Subs.

Our greatly esteemed chapter chairman, Greg Deyermenjian is presently in Peru, planning for his next expedition in quest of the elusive Paititi. Click to visit his site.
His latest book, Successful Underwater Photography (with Howard Hall) was just released by AMPHOTO, a division of Watson-Guptill. In his presentation Shipwrecks & Sea Monsters - The World of an Underwater Photojournalist, Brian will take us with him on assignment and into the sea. We will see fantastic images documenting an amazing array of marine life, including giant bluefin tuna in the Mediterranean, striped marlin off the Baja coast, sperm whales in the Azores, seals beneath the Canadian pack ice, hammerhead and tiger sharks in the Bahamas, and Humboldt squid in the Sea of Cortez. Brian's work with shipwrecks and marine archaeology include documenting historic sites such as the Civil War Ironclad USS Monitor and Confederate submarine Hunley, the pirate shipwreck Whydah, eight German U-Boats, and the famed luxury liner Andrea Doria. In his most recent work he has lived on the ocean floor and photographed saturation divers/scientists inside the Aquarius Habitat as well as D-Day shipwrecks off Normandy France. Throughout his presentation, Brian will share anecdotes behind the photographs and talk about how he tells stories with images. To preview some of his breathtaking imagery, Brian's website can be found at http://www.brianskerry.com. We will have a limited supply of books available for signing and purchase.

As usual, this Tuesday, April 29th event will be held at The Union Club, 8 Park Street, in downtown Boston. Park Street is the short street, at the upper, "Park Street Station" end of the Boston Common that runs between the gilded dome of the State House and Tremont Street. There is parking at street meters (free after 6PM), in the Boston Common Underground Garage (all night for $7), and in other local garages off upper Beacon Street (past the State House). The Social Hour begins at 7 P.M., with the presentation at around 8 P.M. There is a $10 donation per person requested to help defray the costs of room rental, which is payable at the event. There will be a cash bar available. All guests, friends, family, and interested parties are welcome. If you let us know ahead of time that you intend to come, that would be helpful; but regardless, do come. Gentlemen must wear a jacket and tie (no jeans) for entry to the Union Club.

For any further information, or to let us know that you are coming, please contact me at 401-351-4555 or markallio@earthlink.net. See you on the 29th!

Yours very truly,

Mark Allio, Program Chairman
