On the ninth of February, before the assembled throngs of the New England Chapter of the Explorers Club, Eric Takakjian spoke concerning his discovery and exploration of the wreck of the Lightship, known as #117. While on station off Nantucket in 1934, the ship was rammed by the liner Olympic and sent to the bottom with seven of her crewmen.

Eric showed slides of the wreck with its prominent features eerily softened by encrusted sea life. Snagged fishermen's nets shrouded the ship; endangering the divers and adding to the otherworldly look of Eric's slides. Newspaper accounts of the time reported that the ship had been split in two by the collision, but Eric found the wreck lying intact on the bottom in two hundred feet of water.
