On Monday evening, the 26th of February, the New England Chapter of The Explorers Club jointly hosted an event with the Boston Museum of Science. Attendees had a viewing at the museum's Omni Theatre of the acclaimed IMAX film "Shackleton's Antarctic Adventure," followed by a slideshow-presentation given by Chapter member Bob Wallace, who was instrumental in the making of the film. In addition to having provided much consultative and logistical on-site support, Bob made possible the construction of the replica craft, the "James Caird," used in the film's reenactment of Shackleton's amazing and harrowing 800 mile odyssey from Elephant Island to South Georgia; and Bob's acting abilities were most impressively captured in the documentary's most authentic newly-filmed scenes.

The film's conveying of the feel and the immensity of the Antarctic ice sheets; the story of Shackleton's determination and leadership; and Bob Wallace's love affair with the project and the sea, all combined to make for a truly memorable evening.
